Job Description

·   Provide creative input and drive for solutions to improve the efficiency of routine task processes freeing up resources to focus on value added activities and tools that drive business and foster a sustainable and energized department

·   Indirect and Excise Tax

o  Responsibility for sales tax function including taxation of products, understanding of place of supply rules

o  Preparation and/or review of monthly indirect and excise tax filings

o  Support indirect sales tax audits

o  Knowledge of Excise Tax Act, specifically HST/ GST

·   Prepare quarterly tax provisions (US GAAP) including

o  taxes payable

o  FIN48 analysis to determine appropriate tax accounting treatment

o  rate reconciliation and analysis;

o  global reporting schedules and QTD/YTD analysis of fluctuation

o  summary memorandums

o  provide initial responses to external advisors

·   Corporate Compliance preparations including:

o  Annual T2/CO-17

o  T106s – draft with available information, financial analysis of supporting data

o  T1134s and T2047

o  NR4 and NR4-T4A non-resident withholding reporting

o  Monthly indirect and excise tax filings

o  Support Provide initial response to external advisors

·   Audits:

o  Willingness to participate in government audits when possible

o  Assist as appropriate in preparing audit responses

o  Participate in initial analysis of final audit proposals/results to consider impact on tax accounts

·   Regular maintenance of corporate records that support tax accounting and compliance

·   Willingness to informally coach/mentor junior staff

 

Qualifications

·   College or University Degree in Accounting or related discipline

·   CPA designation

·   Completion of at least Part I and II In Depth Tax Program (CICA)

·   Three to five years of progressive experience in a tax role

·   General accounting, fundamental knowledge of accounting principles and practices an asset

·   Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and good problem solving skills

·   Proficiency in Excel and Tax Prep;

·   Oracle knowledge an asset

·   Basic PowerPoint and Word experience required;

·   SAP knowledge beneficial
