Senior Manager, State and Local Tax: Become the Newest Member of Kontoor Brands  


This position is responsible for US State income, franchise and indirect tax compliance and planning including technical research, legislative monitoring, ASC 740 accounting, state income tax provision, federal and state credits & incentives, and analyzing and modeling the impact of legislative and operational changes.  The position will provide state tax guidance and leadership on a wide range of tax issues and participate in significant projects to ensure the state tax implications are identified and considered. The person will promote a team atmosphere, build consensus and strive to continuously improve the compliance process and overall tax operations of the tax department through identifying and using best practices. 


This position is responsible for assisting the Director– Global Tax Operations with oversight and management of key U.S. tax matters including:  


Overseeing US state income, franchise and indirect state tax compliance; 


Managing and executing tax state income and indirect tax planning initiatives;  


Managing the income tax accounting and reporting process for all state tax issues for public US GAAP financials;  


Managing and overseeing the federal and state credits and incentives;  


Planning, executing, and oversight of strategic tax aspects of company’s global legal entity tax structure as it affects domestic taxes;  


Supporting and coordination of all aspects of the business in tax matters and planning in coordination with the Senior Director - State Tax; 


Establishing, reviewing, and updating control-related standards and procedures; 


Responsibility for top-level review of state income, franchise and indirect tax returns. 


State tax research on income, franchise, and other related tax technical matters 


Model changes to VF legal, operational, and tax structures 


Support the Director – Global Tax Operations and the Vice President – Global Taxes to maintain/manage the company’s complex corporate income tax structure that continues to grow as Kontoor changes and grows. 


Maintain the tax platform through coordination of accurate and complete documentation and coordination with the Treasury, Accounting and Legal functions;  


Assist in responding to any IRS or state taxing authority questions or concerns and defend any challenges issued by the IRS and state taxing authorities;  


Integrating new acquisitions into the existing structure 


Communicating and interacting with management and operational leaders across the business, and exploring further opportunities to enhance tax benefits, reduce complexity, and increase efficiency; 


Review state income tax accounting for quarterly and year-end public financial reporting; 


Establish influential relationships across all function and coalition businesses.   


Work on large scale domestic tax projects as needed 


Ensure that audit issues are addressed in ongoing state income tax compliance. 


Review department schedule of compliance work to ensure deadlines are being met. 


Assist in review of US income tax accounting including state tax deferred tax assets, state valuation allowances, state current/deferred tax provisions, state rate calculation and state payable roll forward
