Payroll Tax Manager: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family!
As an extension of the Payroll Services team, reporting to the Director of Payroll Services, the Payroll Tax Manager is responsible managing the company’s compliance with local, state, federal and provincial tax requirements for all US and Canada payrolls, including Puerto Rico. The position will provide coordination and oversight over the work of the third-party vendor and to ensure the accurate and timely filing and remittance of payroll tax payments with local, state, federal and provincial entities. Oversees, and reviews the work of the payroll support staff through hiring, promoting, effecting salary recommendations, and conducting performance appraisals
How You Will Make a Difference:
Provide coordination / oversight over the third-party vendor to ensure integrity and accuracy of filings of employment taxes for all US and Canada entities. This includes periodic, quarterly, and annual filings. Execute and/or review operational reconciliations, audit reports and resolve variances. Ensure accuracy of payroll tax deposits, returns, as well as balance the system of record (Workday) to the third-party vendor tax software. Work with third-party vendor to develop / maintain payroll tax policies and procedures for all US and Canada payrolls Provide ideas, solutions, and tools to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll tax process; supporting a lean process approach. Setup and review creation or changes related to Legal Entities (as needed) Manage the timely resolution of tax notices with agencies Oversee state registrations for tax purposes Serve as subject matter expert regarding federal, state, local and provincial payroll tax and reporting, including providing US and Canada payroll tax expertise to support corporate initiatives. Aid Corporate Tax and other functional areas regarding payroll tax for changes in legislation and projects as well as systems / technology changes to adapt to changing regulations Respond to associate and management inquiries related to payroll taxes Assist in both internal and external audits Provide coordination and oversight over ADP and Canada Revenue Agency to ensure accuracy and timely filings/issuance of year end statements. Work with GBT and the payroll consultant teams on quarterly and year-end processes impacting payroll taxes. This includes testing and validation of third party system patches. Work with GBT on any new implementations that impact payroll taxes. This would include testing and the creation of specific testing scenarios. Update payroll system tax deductions, tax tables and third party tax interfaces. Ensure the integrity of payroll tax data contained in the payroll database. Advise and assist with taxation issues for expats and cross-border associates Communicates information effectively, translating financial data into meaningful information that support business decision-making. Participate as a core team member to the time tracking consolidation strategy initiative in conjunction with consistencies of time tracking best practices and standard reporting. Implement procedures and ensure compliance with all internal policies and controls as well as compliance with external laws and regulatory guidance and SOX requirements. Maintains professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies Responsible for monitoring all activities necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, and ensuring control procedures have been established. Develop a highly skilled and well-trained staff (provide appropriate training, coaching and career opportunities) to ensure the efficient and effective support to the business. Advises, builds and maintains successful relationships with cross-functional teams, VF coalitions, and VF management on company policies and procedures. Independently handle complex tasks such as escalation management, report analysis and communication to key stakeholders Manage payroll related audits, interfacing with external auditors and state and federal agencies. Performs other related duties or projects as required or requested
Skills for Success:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 5-8+ years
Educational/ Position Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined with relevant experience
· 5 or more years payroll management experience with a public-traded company
· CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required
· Experience in large multi-state employer required
· Workday/Payroll experience preferred
· Strong knowledge of federal, state and local payroll taxes required
· Basic general ledger knowledge strongly preferred
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· Analytical and systems background
· Ability to work independently
· Strong communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
· Travel by air and overnight, as required 25% amount of time.
