Job Summary:

The Principal will support the EMEA Head of Tax by leading the EMEA Compliance, transfer pricing and controversy team. This team will be responsible for ensuring all EMEA country tax compliance requirements are met, transfer pricing policy and support local tax authority audit and controversy.

This will include liaison with business and finance heads in each line of business in each EMEA country to ensure local country matters are effectively managed. Also ensure that tax controversy matters are effectively and efficiently dealt with including determining strategy and allocation of resources for each matter and liaising with US Lead Tax Counsel.

Also management of a team of 5 tax professionals, the role will oversee and manage all aspects of their workload and development. Being a senior member of the EMEA tax team this role will also help develop the whole team including all junior members of the team and help determine future direction and priorities of the department.

This role will require a highly motivated tax professional with strong technical and interpersonal skills who wishes to pursue a career in a growing and dynamic global organisation.

 

Responsibilities:

Transfer Pricing and advisory

·   Lead the implementation and development of the EMEA transfer pricing policies, ensuring they reflect commercial and business operations to satisfy local transfer pricing legislation

·   Lead a team to aid in achieving tax certainty including through unilateral and bi-lateral advance pricing agreements as applicable

·   Partner with the local Finance leaders and Controllers to be able to understand local business operations and changes, to provide relevant and accurate tax advice.

·   Pro-actively suggest amendments and resolutions to transfer pricing matters across the region

·   Work with the business to fully understand all commercial initiatives, evaluating business models, effectively structuring and suggesting potential solutions to manage risks, costs and maximise opportunities

·   Responsible for training of finance colleagues across the region to ensure compliance with processes and requirements

·   Work closely with US Transfer Pricing team on matters such as policy, documentation strategy, CBCR

Controversy

·   Lead the EMEA Tax work streams dealing with tax authority enquiries and managing controversy across all countries in the EMEA region

·   Pro-actively partner with the EMEA regional business, finance heads, and legal of each line of business in each EMEA territory to enable provision of responses to tax authority enquires on an accurate and timely basis

·   Determine resources required including external advisers and scope/budget thereon

·   Liaise with Lead Tax Counsel on any significant matters and responses

·   Pro-actively identify any improvements in process and documentation to aid future defence

·   Help devise and lead implementation of future strategy for dealing with controversy e.g. Advance Pricing Agreements and Mutual Agreement Procedures as appropriate

EMEA tax compliance

·   Manage the team responsible for delivering the day to day management of the tax compliance processes across EMEA, resolving issues and co-ordinating with the EMEA controllers and outsource providers and advisers.

·   Ensure all EMEA filings are met on a timely and efficient basis

·   Manage external advisers for the outsource of corporate tax compliance.

·   Work with the business to fully understand all commercial initiatives, evaluating business models, effectively structuring and suggesting potential solutions or changes to supply and contractual flows to manage risks, costs and maximise opportunities

·   Considering the local country operations, reviewing commercial initiatives across the region and ensure the operations are structured appropriately and have the correct processes and controls from a direct tax perspective.

·   Pro-actively identify any direct tax planning opportunities and project managing these to implementation

Tax Legislation, Environment and Networking

·   Create and maintain a strong external network to ensure Disney is aware of a wide-range of Companies and Industries attitudes, structure, issues and processes regarding indirect taxes, to aid Disney in its development of Transfer Pricing and Controversy strategy.

·   Be part in Industry groups for relevant line of businesses to enable Disney to be aware of industry developments and best practices.

·   Create and maintain a good internal network to ensure Tax is involved and consulted in all commercial initiatives and relevant projects across local EMEA countries.

·   Pro-actively work with advisers, tax authorities and the business to identify current and potential local EMEA and Global tax legislation changes, determining how most appropriately to manage these changes, then leading the implementation (e.g. EU Mandatory Disclosure).

·   Involvement in tax policy and lobbying at a UK, EU and global level, where applicable, on legislative and environmental changes (e.g. BEPS) that impact Disney’s business and determining how best to implement these changes.

 

Basic Qualifications:

·   Qualified CTA / ACA

·   Significant experience in direct tax compliance and advisory experience

·   Transfer pricing policy development and functional analysis

·   Experience of various global tax authority engagement and controversy management

·   Big 4 tax experience is a preference

·   Experience of working in a senior role in a tax department of a large multinational company (US based multinational and media sector experience a plus)

·   Leading and developing a team

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·   Excellent International tax compliance and advisory experience for multinational companies

·   Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines to deliver

·   Analytical and problem solving skills with ability to make decisions and recommendations

·   Ability to summarise and communicate complex technical issues

·   Able to manage workload to tight deadlines and prioritise multiple tasks and work streams

·   Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation

·   Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·   Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence at the highest level

·   Proven ability to produce quality research and analysis both in a quantitative and narrative form – directly and with or through teams.

·   Ability to adapt to a changing environment
