(April 28, 2015)

On April 28, 2015 the European Parliament issued a press release announcing that Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are set to debate whether proper protection was afforded to the whistleblowers and investigative journalists who revealed the tax avoidance and tax evasion practices permitted by Luxembourg’s special tax rulings. According to the press release this “Luxleaks” debate is the last agenda item of today (April 28, 2015).

The press release furthermore states that the debate was added to the agenda at the request of the GUE/NGL-group, following last week's Luxembourg Court charges against French journalist Edouard Perrin, who is a member of the Centre for Investigative Journalism which helped to make the practices public. Similar charges were earlier pressed against former Price Waterhouse Coopers employee Antoine Deltour and another unnamed PwC-employee, for leaking information on tax rulings.
