On December 8, 2015 on the website of the European Council/Council of the European Union a press release was published in which it is announced that the Council of the European Union approved the conclusion of agreements with Liechtenstein and Switzerland aimed at improving tax compliance by private savers.

According to the press release the two agreements will contribute to efforts to clamp down on tax evasion, by requiring the EU member states and the two countries to automatically exchange information.

The EU-Switzerland agreement was signed on May 27, 2015, and the EU-Liechtenstein agreement on October 28, 2015.
