HMRC launches a new online service for UK financial institutions to register and report financial information on behalf of their US customers in accordance with UK/US legislation.

Financial institutions must review the accounts that they maintain and report certain account holders to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) every year. This includes information that must be sent to the US under The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).

The HMRC published a short guide on its website, which explains how to register with the HMRC, provides more information regarding the FATCA Returns to be submitted and contains links to other HMRC pages providing more detailed guidance.
